The Advantages of Home Equity – Loans and Lines of Credit

Thinking of remodeling your kitchen this summer? Police FCU’s Home Equity Loans and Home Equity Lines of Credit (HELOC) are a great way to finance such “big ticket” items. Members who own their own homes can use the equity they’ve built up in their property as collateral for these loans.

A Home Equity Loan gives you a fixed sum to work with, repayable over a fixed period, usually with a fixed interest rate. A HELOC operates as a revolving line of credit, and generally has an adjustable interest rate, but offers the flexibility to borrow what you need now, with the ability to borrow more later on, up to your maximum credit limit.

You can use your HELOC or Home Equity Loan for a variety of purposes, such as:

• Consolidating high-interest debts
• Completing home renovations
• Paying for a college education
• Installing a swimming pool
• Paying medical bills
• Purchasing a vacation home
• And more…

For assistance with which type of loan is best for you, contact one of our loan specialists at the credit union today.

Home Ownership Still the American Dream? (back to top)

Today’s low-rate mortgages make it a great time to get a foothold on the property ladder. Recent studies have shown that over time, it still pays to buy a home rather than rent. In fact, many people find their mortgage payments would be lower than the rent they currently pay, or would have to pay for the equivalent property. Plus, unlike rent, which typically goes up each year, a fixed-rate mortgage means your payments stay the same for the life of the loan.

Let us help you find out how much house you can afford. Visit our online mortgage center at www.policefcu.com today to help you get started!
